services + techniques
At FLo Chiropractic, we offer several different services to customize your care.
Chiropractic adjustments produce movement within a joint, efficiently restoring mobility, nerve signaling, and blood flow to the surrounding area. As a result, pain and other nerve irritations (numbness, tingling) are quickly decreased, muscle spasm is reduced, and range of motion is improved. There are several different modes that we utilize at FLo Chiropractic to deliver our adjustments, including a quick, shallow thrust (manual/diversified), gentle mobilization, drop tables, hand-held instruments (Activator), speeder boards, and pelvic blocks. Depending on the issue, your current state, and your preferences, we may use a combination of these styles applied to both your spine and extremities.
Active Release Techniques
Active Release Techniques (ART) is a movement-based treatment for injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves - collectively known as your soft tissues. It is extremely effective for locating and eliminating tissue adhesions, allowing restoration of both structural and functional impairments. Each treatment session includes evaluation of the texture, tone, and movement of the involved area. Abnormal tissue is treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. There are over 500 distinct ART treatment protocols that contribute to highly accurate results. Headaches, back and neck pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, shoulder pain, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, hip flexor pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be treated.
Originally developed by athletes, Graston Technique is an innovative form of instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy that enables the powerful break down of scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to methodically detect and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. Graston has been clinically proven to achieve quicker and better outcomes in treating both acute and chronic issues, including common conditions such as: plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, IT Band Syndrome, rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis elbow, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, TMJ disorders, and headaches.
BSU Technique is FLo Chiropractic’s special manual therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It involves the application of concentrated pressure with small, precise motions over specific areas of soft tissue compromise. This technique is used to release the buildup of pain-causing inflammatory products and cell waste, break up fibrotic adhesions, deactivate hypersensitive nerves causing pain, reactivate motor nerves that have been shut off during injury causing muscle weakness, promote blood flow, and lengthen muscles due to contracture from disuse, faulty movement patterns, or disease. The resulting effect is reduced muscle spasm, tension, and swelling; improved ranges of motion, flexibility, and coordination; deactivated myofascial trigger points; reduced pain; gains in muscle strength; faster healing and recovery times; and reduced rates of injury recurrence.
Many injuries are the result of muscular imbalances, improper biomechanics, and faulty neuromuscular connections. In other words, whether you are engaged in a demanding training schedule, or sitting with poor posture on a daily basis, injuries can occur for the same underlying reasons. When your body is continuously trying to make up for these inadequacies, normal functions take much more effort to carry out, therefore causing your body to fatigue and essentially ‘give out’ much more readily. Without sufficient rehabilitation, the likelihood of re-injury is significantly higher. This phase of care, which begins very early in the treatment process, is important in speeding up recovery rates and improving overall function. Every treatment plan will always include at least some aspect of rehabilitation, depending on your needs, and may include: Kinesiotaping, biomechanical analyses, ergonomic/workplace assessments, exercise instruction, lifestyle modifications, and nutritional support.
Simply put, biomechanics is the dissection of movement patterns during a certain activity. No matter if that activity is a sport (running, swimming, golfing, etc.), or if it is part of your daily routine (typing, lifting, walking, etc.), any defect to these patterns can result in poor performance and an increase in injuries. Localized pain, pain farther away from an original injury site, altered motion, and even avoidance of activities are all caused by faulty biomechanics. At FLo Chiropractic, our approach includes a detailed history, examination of associated areas of the body, and assessment of the problematic activity. Further in-depth evaluations, such as videos and pictures, may be used for educational purposes. By breaking down movements into structural, functional, compensatory, and neurological components, a much more targeted rehabilitation plan can be formulated, individualized to where your weaknesses lie.
Nutrition counseling at FLo Chiropractic involves a comprehensive look into various factors – such as food allergies and sensitivities, malabsorption issues, and nutrient deficiencies – and their relationship to specific health concerns. Some of these manifestations include digestive conditions, inflammation, mood and cognitive changes, increased pain, decreased strength, delayed healing; the list goes on! Our nutrition program is personalized to each individual and provides a practical approach to achieving profound and lasting changes to health, based upon a natural, whole foods foundation.
